Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Righetti

Righetti won the last time they faced Cabrillo and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Warriors narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Conquistadores 8-7. The game was the first time the Warriors have beaten the Conquistadores on their field since April 10, 2015.

Jacob McMillan and Riley Bassett were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, McMillan pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Bassett tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. McMillan has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, McMillan scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Bassett scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Bassett a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blake Thayer, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Graysen Cole was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Righetti kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win (which was Righetti's fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-5. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Cabrillo, they dropped their record down to 6-6 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Righetti will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Conquistadores: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
