Basketball Recap: Crystal River Takes a Loss

Crystal River lost against Lecanto back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Crystal River Pirates were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 48-47 to the Lecanto Panthers.

Despite the loss, Crystal River had strong showings from Angel Hughes, who went 7 of 14 en route to 20 points, and Madison Peightal, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 rebounds gave Peightal a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Keyrra Ruiz, who posted eight points and three steals.

Lecanto was led to victory by Aleena Borgus and Bryleigh Florio. Borgus dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 boards, while Florio dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Barbieri, who put up three points.

Crystal River's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Lecanto, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-3.

Crystal River wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 57-42 loss against North Marion on the 11th. As for Lecanto, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 42-31 defeat against Mitchell on the 11th.
