Baseball Game Preview: Groveport-Madison Cruisers vs. Logan Chieftains

The Groveport-Madison Cruisers will head out on the road to face off against the Logan Chieftains at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Groveport-Madison will be strutting in after a victory while Logan will be coming in after a loss.

Groveport-Madison took a 13-run defeat the last time they faced off against Reynoldsburg, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cruisers skirted past the Raiders 3-2. The win was some much needed relief for the Cruisers as it spelled an end to their nine-game losing streak.

AJ Dykes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Chris Conley, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Groveport-Madison's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 0-12 when he doesn't). Kaeden Litsinberger was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Logan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against Canal Winchester, falling 8-2.

Groveport-Madison's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-10 and their overall record up to 2-13. As for Logan, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-16.

Groveport-Madison might still be hurting after the 12-3 loss they got from Logan in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Cruisers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
