Basketball Game Preview: Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates vs. Eads Eagles

Genoa-Hugo/Karval is 1-8 against Eads since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. Having just played yesterday, the Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates will jump right back in to play the Eads Eagles at 2:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Genoa-Hugo/Karval comes in on four and Eads on 15.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Nucla by a score of 31-21.

Meanwhile, Eads blew past South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett], posting a 63-27 victory. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matches by 23 points or more this season.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval better focus on containing Anna Wollert and Tailee Weeks-Johnson as the pair were huge in Eads' win. Wollert went 7-for-15 to rack up 19 points in addition to six steals and five boards, while Weeks-Johnson shot 62% from the field on her way to 20 points and three steals. That's the most points Weeks-Johnson has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Sierra, who put up eight points and five steals.

Eads' win bumped their record up to 20-3. As for Genoa-Hugo/Karval, their victory bumped their record up to 13-11.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval suffered a grim 37-14 defeat to Eads in their previous meeting back in February. Can Genoa-Hugo/Karval avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
