Baseball Recap: Lucerne Valley Takes a Loss

Lucerne Valley had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-10 to make it four. They fell just short of the Palmdale Academy Charter School Jaguars by a score of 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Mustangs have suffered since March 19, 2024.

Raul Gonzalez and Leon Willoughby stepped up to the plate in a big way. Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Willoughby went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Jude Hendricks also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Palmdale Academy Charter School, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-10. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games.

On Palmdale Academy Charter School's side, they got a great performance from Derek Martinez as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over 7.1 innings pitched. Martinez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Isaac Torres, who fired off three triples, three stolen bases, and three RBI while going 5-for-5. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Alessio Ruiz, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lucerne Valley will head out to take on Victor Valley Christian at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Palmdale Academy Charter School, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Santa Clarita Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
