Basketball Recap: El Campo Takes a Loss

El Campo was the 62-60 winner over Wharton when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The El Campo Ricebirds were beaten by the Wharton Tigers 73-40 on Friday. The Ricebirds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Wharton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ja'Keon Jackson, who posted nine points along with five rebounds and four steals. Jackson has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was J'Dynn Lewis, who went 6 of 11 en route to 17 points.

El Campo's defeat dropped their record down to 9-15. As for Wharton, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-10.

El Campo will take on Needville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Needville has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests. As for Wharton, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Wharton Tigers duke it out with the La Marque Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. La Marque will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Wharton surely won't give up without a fight.
