Softball Recap: Lutheran West Comes Up Short

Lutheran West dropped their record down to 8-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Brookside Cardinals, falling 17-1. If the Longhorns were looking for revenge after losing 14-4 to the Cardinals when the teams met back in April of 2021, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Emerson 'Emmy' Hayes made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

As for Brookside, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-14. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games.

On Brookside's side, Markie-Ann Aliff was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Aliff was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Leann Clark was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Audrey Albaugh also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Coming up, Lutheran West will head out on the road to square off against Kirtland at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Brookside has already played their next match (against Columbia), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
