Basketball Recap: Jason Abbott's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Phillipsburg over St. Thomas Aquinas

Phillipsburg has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took an 81-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Thomas Aquinas Trojans on Saturday.

Phillipsburg lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jason Abbott, who went 10 of 17 on his way to 28 points. The dominant performance gave Abbott a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Scerbo Jr., who posted 25 points.

Phillipsburg's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Phillipsburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 62-44 win against Franklin on the 28th. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 81-54 defeat against Paul VI on the 28th.
