Basketball Recap: Mariah Bell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead North Brunswick over Ashley

North Brunswick was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 52-33 to the Ashley Screaming Eagle. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Screaming Eagle this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 51-43 last Wednesday.

North Brunswick lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Mariah Bell, who posted eight points and six steals. What's more, she also posted three assists, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Ayanna Meyers was another key player, going 5-for-8 to rack up 11 points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, North Brunswick smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

North Brunswick's defeat dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Ashley, their win bumped their record up to 10-14.

When North Brunswick and Ashley next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. North Brunswick will take on Hoggard and their 14-game winning streak at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Ashley will try to stop Topsail's four-game winning streak when the meet at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
