Baseball Recap: Merino Wins Going Away Against Caliche

Merino was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Caliche on Saturday. The Rams blew past the Buffaloes 15-1. The win continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Buffaloes: they've now won nine in a row.

Zavier Trenkle made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 15 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Merino is undefeated when Trenkle posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Coen Schmidt, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Tyler Everhart was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Merino pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Caliche, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.
