Basketball Recap: Jamaya Hooker and Zamaria Mellette Secure Win for Southern Lee + How To Watch

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Overhills, Southern Lee was happy to have turned things around on Monday. Everything went their way against the Eastern Randolph Wildcats as they made off with a 54-34 victory. The matchup was close at halftime, but the Cavaliers turned on the heat in the second half with 36 points.

Leading Southern Lee to victory were Zamaria Mellette and Jamaya Hooker. Mellette shot 58% from the field en route to 14 points and eight rebounds, while Hooker posted seven points in addition to eight boards and seven steals. Those 58% field goal percentage gave Mellette a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zaidah Spruell, who had nine points.

Southern Lee was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastern Randolph only posted one.

When it comes to explaining why Eastern Randolph lost, don't look at Callie Craven. Despite the final result, she put up 14 points.

The win got Southern Lee back to even at 1-1.

Southern Lee has already played their next contest, a 55-8 victory against Jordan-Matthews on the 25th. As for Eastern Randolph, they will square off against Cary Academy at 6:00 p.m. on the 2nd. The Wildcats will need to watch out since the Chargers have now posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
