Basketball Recap: Somerset Academy Takes a Loss

Somerset Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 65-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Everglades Gators. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Gators apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Somerset Academy still got an impressive performance from Christian Smith, who went 7 for 11 en route to 22 points. The game was Smith's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mekhi Hudson-Dillard, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points.

Everglades' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nathan Rey led the charge by going 6 for 7 en route to 16 points. Those 16 points gave Rey a new career-high. Odean Gilmore was another key player, putting up ten points and eight rebounds.

Somerset Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Everglades, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-8.

Somerset Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 82-53 loss against Sagemont on the 27th. As for Everglades, they will square off against Archbishop McCarthy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Everglades is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.1 points per game this season.
