Basketball Recap: La Joya Community Comes Up Short

After flying high against Maryvale Prep last Monday, La Joya Community came back down to earth. The La Joya Community Fighting Lobos were just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 44-43 to the Thunderbird Titans. The match marked the Fighting Lobos' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Several Fighting Lobos players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Joseph Rukundo, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 14 points and three steals. Donald Sannoh was another key player, putting up seven points and three steals.

Even though they lost, La Joya Community smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

La Joya Community's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Thunderbird, with the win, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-7.

As for Thunderbird, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 71-38 loss against Willow Canyon on the 27th.
