Softball Game Preview: Lake Stevens Vikings vs. Arlington Eagles

The Lake Stevens Vikings will face off against the Arlington Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Last Thursday, Lake Stevens didn't have quite enough to beat Jackson and fell 4-3. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Timberwolves recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Mara Sivley was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out 12 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Alaina Emme was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Emerson Cummins was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Arlington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of Mount Vernon. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Eagles' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Kinsey Marchand spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits.

Arlington's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Lake Stevens, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

Lake Stevens took their victory against Arlington when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
