Baseball Recap: Pomeroy Comes Up Short

Pomeroy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-9 heartbreaker at the hands of Non Varsity Opponent. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Non Varsity Opponent this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-6 on April 1st.

Corbin Nelson put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Nelson was also big at the plate, earning two runs and two stolen bases. He has become a key player for Pomeroy: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Conrad Nelson made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Byron Collier, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Pomeroy's loss dropped their record down to 2-9.

Coming up, Pomeroy will take on Touchet at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Non Varsity Opponent, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 14-4 win against Mount Hope Christian Academy on the 18th.
