Softball Game Preview: Redwood Valley Cardinals vs. Fairmont Cardinals

Redwood Valley will challenge Fairmont at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, Redwood Valley put up the most runs they have all season on Thursday. Everything went their way against Montevideo as they made off with a 21-10 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cardinals as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Grace Blare was incredible, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ava Meier, who went 4-for-6 with three RBI.

Redwood Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Fairmont ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Luverne 10-9. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for Fairmont's hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

The team relied heavily on Makenzie Lowry, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Leiding, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Redwood Valley's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Fairmont, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.
