Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Lee's Summit walked away with it. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lee's Summit North Broncos on Friday, sneaking past 35-33. The win was familiar territory for the Tigers, who have now won six contests in a row.

Lee's Summit got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Preston Hatfield out in front who rushed for 285 yards and two TDs while picking up 12.4 yards per carry. Hatfield really tore up the turf during one magnificent 73-yard run. The team also got some help courtesy of Karsten Fiene, who rushed for 109 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 14 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lee's Summit was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 419 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 232 rushing yards in seven consecutive games.

Lee's Summit North lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Bryce Thompson, who rushed for 137 yards on only 14 carries. He has become a key player for Lee's Summit North: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise.

Lee's Summit's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Lee's Summit North, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 6-4.

Lee's Summit didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 42-21 victory against North Kansas City on the 14th. Lee's Summit North does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
