Basketball Recap: Queen City Prep Comes Up Short

Queen City Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 68-65 heartbreaker at the hands of the Asheville School (Independent) Blues. While losing is never fun, the Kings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 292nd, while the Blues are ranked 100th).

Despite the loss, Queen City Prep still got an impressive performance from RJ Palmer Jr., who posted 29 points and seven assists. That was a full 44.6% of Queen City Prep's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sincere Treadwell, who scored 12 points and six rebounds.

Leading Asheville School (Independent) to victory were Miki Gacic and Heimir Helgason. Gacic dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 assists, while Helgason dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 boards. The game was Helgason's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Tyrell Wallace was another key player, putting up nine points.

Queen City Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Asheville School (Independent), their record now sits at 9-3.

Queen City Prep has already played their next match (against Combine Academy Varsity), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Asheville School (Independent) wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 85-57 win against York Prep on the 15th.
