Baseball Recap: St. Stephens Comes Up Short

St. Stephens extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 11-6 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the North Iredell Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-0 on Tuesday.

As for North Iredell, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

For North Iredell's part, their victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Xavier Burgess, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base.

St. Stephens and North Iredell should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Indians will challenge Bunker Hill at 11:00 a.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (111 vs. 316). Meanwhile, North Iredell (ranked 38th) will meet North Surry (ranked 203rd) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
