Basketball Recap: Olympia Titans vs. University Cougars

The Olympia Titans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 45-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of University. Olympia was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2021.

When it comes to explaining why Olympia lost, one person who can't be blamed is Arlinda Roundtree. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 17 points and 18 rebounds. Roundtree has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mary-Kate Louissaint, who scored six points along with 19 rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead University to victory, but perhaps none more so than Haley Caldwell, who scored 13 points along with three steals. It was the first time this season that Caldwell grabbed two or more steals. Another player making a difference was Jacqueline Leap, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.

Olympia dropped their record down to 8-12 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for University, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-11.

Olympia won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. As for University, they will head out on the road to take on the Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Timber Creek presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Cougars in Florida (the Wolves are ranked 46th, while the Cougars are ranked 316th).
