Softball Recap: West Shamokin Picks Up 11th Straight Win at Home

While West Shamokin put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for United. The Wolves blew past the Lions 15-0. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Avery Elkin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Malena Stewart was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Deanna Boyer, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

West Shamokin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .654. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as United only posted an OBP of .182.

West Shamokin pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for United, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Coming up, West Shamokin will head out on the road to take on Cambria Heights at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for United, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ferndale at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
