St. Mary is 2-8 against Saguaro since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Knights will welcome the Sabercats at 6:00 p.m. St. Mary's has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
St. Mary's lost 19-4 to Cactus Shadows on Wednesday. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
St. Mary's saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Meredith Schager, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. Izzy Nunez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Saguaro). Everything went their way against Marcos de Niza on Thursday as they made off with a 24-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Sabercats in their matchups with the Padres: they've now won three in a row.
Malina Morones was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Morones was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Saguaro got a massive performance out of Hailey Holliday, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI Holliday has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Tyler Moag, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with five RBI and two doubles.
Saguaro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .651. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marcos de Niza only posted an OBP of .400.
Saguaro's win bumped their record up to 11-13. As for St. Mary's, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-13.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. St. Mary's hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Saguaro struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
St. Mary's came up short against Saguaro in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 8-5. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
