Softball Game Preview: Coalinga Horned Toads vs. Firebaugh Eagles

Coalinga is a perfect 10-0 against Firebaugh since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Horned Toads will face off against the Eagles at 3:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Coalinga has three straight victories, Firebaugh has 12 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Coalinga is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Torres 13-3 on Tuesday.

Cabella Redding spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brooklyn Davis was incredible, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March of 2025. Cristina Guzman was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Coalinga kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Firebaugh's offense. They lost 22-0 to Torres two weeks ago. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly 22 runs.

Firebaugh's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Coalinga, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

Everything went Coalinga's way against Firebaugh when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Coalinga made off with a 12-0 win. Do the Horned Toads have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
