Softball Recap: Nute Rams vs. Pittsfield Panthers
Nute had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-4 to make it six. They came up short against the Pittsfield Panthers, falling 16-1. The Rams were not able to make up for their defeat to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.
As for Pittsfield, the win keeps they at an undefeated 4-0. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 15 runs or more this season.
For Pittsfield's part, Alivia Lavigne and Alex Penney made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Lavigne struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Penney struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Lavigne went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Penney got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, five runs, and one double. With that strong performance, Penney is now averaging an impressive 2.7 runs per game.
In other batting news, Ashley Clark was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Babcock, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
