Volleyball Game Preview: St. Michael the Archangel Guardians vs. Grain Valley Eagles

St. Michael the Archangel is on a ten-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Grain Valley is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Guardians will host the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

St. Michael the Archangel was handed a three-set loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out St. Pius X 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Guardians have posted since May 9, 2024.

St. Michael the Archangel was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The match finished with set scores of 27-25, 23-25, 19-25, 28-26, 15-10.

Meanwhile, Grain Valley made easy work of Raymore-Peculiar on Thursday and carried off a 3-0 victory.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Grain Valley was: they took every set by at least 14 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-6, 25-11, 25-10.

Grain Valley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6-1 record this season. As for St. Michael the Archangel, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.

St. Michael the Archangel was able to grind out a solid victory over Grain Valley in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 3-1. Will the Guardians repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
