Softball Game Preview: Norwell Knights vs. DeKalb Barons

The Norwell Knights are taking a road trip to challenge the DeKalb Barons at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Norwell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.

Norwell gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over Heritage. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Norwell let Mia Kurtz and Reese Frauhiger run wild. Kurtz got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Frauhiger went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three runs gave Kurtz a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Leah Werling, who went 2-for-3 with three runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Norwell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 7-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 13 runs the game before, DeKalb was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They lost 6-0 to Carroll. The Barons haven't had much luck with the Chargers recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Norwell's win bumped their record up to 10-6. As for DeKalb, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

Everything went Norwell's way against DeKalb in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Norwell made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
