Football Game Preview: Beauregard Hornets vs. Russell County Warriors

The Beauregard Hornets will head out on the road to take on the Russell County Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Beauregard took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 14-7 win over Valley.

Tae Foreman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 133 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Beauregard didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Camden Bowen.

Meanwhile, after only six points in their last contest, Russell County made sure to put some points up on the board against Rehobeth on Friday. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 46-21 margin over the Rebels. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won five games by 21 points or more so far this season.

Russell County found their leader in sophomore Chris Lucas, who rushed for 228 yards and three scores on only 12 carries. With that strong performance, Lucas is now averaging an impressive 112.9 rushing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Bryson Riggins, who threw for 207 yards and four TDs on only ten passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Russell County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 228 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

Beauregard's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-6. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 5.3 yards per carry in those games compared to only 3.35 in the others. As for Russell County, their record now sits at 8-1.

Beauregard couldn't quite get it done against Russell County when the teams last played back in November of 2024 as they fell 35-23. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
