Basketball Recap: Legacy Lightning vs. Broomfield Eagles
After flying high against Silver Creek last Tuesday, Legacy came back down to earth. The Legacy Lightning were outmatched by the Broomfield Eagles and fell 54-18. The Lightning haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Legacy lost on Friday, don't look at Olivia Mortensen. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards. That was a full 66.7% of Legacy's points, marking the sixth time in a row Mortensen has posted more than a third of the team's points.
Broomfield found their leader in freshman Reece Gilpatrick, who went 7-for-10 on her way to 18 points and four steals. Paige Gilpatrick was another key player, putting up five points in addition to six rebounds and five steals.
Legacy's defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Broomfield, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 20-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Legacy will face off against Holy Family at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Broomfield, they will square off against Mead at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Mead has won nine straight at home, while Broomfield won nine straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
