Softball Recap: Assumption Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Assumption dropped their record down to 16-5 on Thursday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Almond-Bancroft Eagles, falling 14-0. The shutout was out of character for the Royals seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in April.

As for Almond-Bancroft, they have been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

For Almond-Bancroft's part, Riya Ceballos made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Ceballos has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Lexi Carlton and Kerstyn Clark did most of the damage at the plate: Carlton went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Clark went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those four hits gave Clark a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Oakley Omernik, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

As of now, neither Assumption nor Almond-Bancroft have any future games scheduled.
