Basketball Recap: Orangeburg-Wilkinson Bruins vs. Burke Bulldogs
Orangeburg-Wilkinson kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell 57-49 to the Burke Bulldogs. The Bruins were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.
Several Bruins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Malayshia Bradley, who had eight points plus ten rebounds. D'Ivona Rumph was another key player, as she made all 5 shots she took racking up 10 points plus two blocks.
Burke found their leader in freshman Nathaya Phoenix, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryanna Graham, who scored 15 points plus three steals.
Orangeburg-Wilkinson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 49-47 win against Porter-Gaud on the 30th. Burke has also already played their next game, a 59-39 loss against Westwood on the 30th.
