Baseball Game Preview: South Plaquemines Hurricanes vs. Bonnabel Bruins

The South Plaquemines Hurricanes will face off against the Bonnabel Bruins at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Plaquemines will be strutting in after a victory while Bonnabel will be coming in after a loss.

South Plaquemines is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past John Ehret 21-11 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Hurricanes, who have now won seven games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Rod Parker was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because South Plaquemines is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 4-7 otherwise. Parker was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. Parker is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Javonta Gomez was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Khi Ancar was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Bonnabel's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They lost 18-8 to L.W. Higgins.

South Plaquemines' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Bonnabel, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 14-11.
