Softball Recap: Discovery Canyon Takes a Loss

Discovery Canyon had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 6-15 to make it four. They fell just short of the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks by a score of 11-10. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red-Tailed Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-1 on Thursday.

Discovery Canyon saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bella Holcomb, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Lia Marrufo also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

As for Cheyenne Mountain, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since September 15th.

On Cheyenne Mountain's side, Addison Gutschick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered ten runs (all of which were unearned) on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Abbi Houger was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in October of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Anderson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Looking ahead, Discovery Canyon will square off against Lewis-Palmer at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cheyenne Mountain, they will face off against Palmer Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Red-Tailed Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bears have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season.
