Softball Recap: Reading Triumphs

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Reading ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Concord Yellowjackets. The Rangers haven't had any issues with the Yellowjackets recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Leah Headley spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Savannah McDonald was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Jazzelle Hassenzahl was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Reading's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 8-5. As for Concord, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Yellowjackets beat Reading by a score of 8-7 later that day.
