Softball Recap: Horizon Christian Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Win

Horizon Christian strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Park Tudor Panthers a 21-0 shutout. While Horizon Christian didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-6), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Lucy Long and Victoria Kiger made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Long tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Kiger struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Long has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Long went 3-for-5 with five runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Kiger got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cayden Marshall was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, eight RBI, and two stolen bases. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Cambria Hathaway, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Horizon Christian pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.2 runs over those games. As for Park Tudor, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, Horizon Christian will face off against Liberty Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.17 runs per game on average), something Horizon Christian will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Park Tudor, they will take on Herron at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
