Softball Recap: Schuylkill Haven Has No Trouble Against Minersville

Schuylkill Haven barely beat Minersville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hurricanes were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Battlin' Miners on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Hurricanes, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Allison Scherer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Teagan Wehr and Emmie Scherer did most of the damage at the plate: Wehr went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base, while Emmie got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two triples gave Wehr a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ally Becker, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Schuylkill Haven is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Minersville, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.

Coming up, Schuylkill Haven will be playing at home against Oley Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hurricanes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lynx have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Minersville, they will square off against Pottsville at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
