Basketball Recap: Schuylkill Haven Takes a Loss

Schuylkill Haven was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a blow against the Minersville Battlin' Miners, falling 73-37. The matchup marked the Hurricanes' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Schuylkill Haven's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alan Evans, who posted 15 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. That was a full 40.5% of Schuylkill Haven's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. Max Heim was another key player, putting up 11 points and five boards.

Dante Carr continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Minersville, almost dropping a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. The game was Carr's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Shazier Bethea, who went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and five assists.

Schuylkill Haven's loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Minersville, they pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Schuylkill Haven wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 68-57 victory against Marian Catholic on the 21st. Minersville has also already played their next contest, a 54-44 defeat against Pottsville on the 21st.
