Softball Game Preview: Powell County Pirates vs. Burgin Bulldogs

The Powell County Pirates will head out to square off against the Burgin Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Powell County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Powell County and Owsley County, and Powell County kept the tradition alive. The Pirates' pitcher stepped up to hand the Owls / Lady Owls a 15-0 shutout on Thursday. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Owls / Lady Owls recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Kylie Shick was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Shick was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Kincaid, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Brooklyn Slone also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Burgin posted their closest win since May 11, 2024 on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Danville Christian Academy 10-9.

Jocelyn Stanley was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ashton Lester, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs.

Powell County's record is now 8-11. As for Burgin, their record now sits at 5-11.
