Basketball Recap: Elkton/Lake Benton Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Elkton/Lake Benton can now relate to. They came up short against the Deuel Cardinals on Friday, falling 64-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Elks have suffered since January 14th.

Deuel's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gabe Sather led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. What's more, Sather also posted a 75% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Caden Finnesand, who shot 47% from the field on his way to 19 points.

Elkton/Lake Benton has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season. The win was the fourth in a row for Deuel, bringing their record for this year to 15-6.
