Softball Game Preview: Foster Falcons vs. Alief Hastings Bears

The Foster Falcons will venture away from home to challenge the Alief Hastings Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Foster has eight straight victories, Alief Hastings has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Alief Hastings' hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: Foster hadn't allowed a single run the last seven times they've hit the field. The Falcons put the hurt on Alief Taylor with a sharp 17-0 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won 12 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Lizzy Yeager looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jessica Reyes was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Jordan Tosch was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Foster was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .750. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in seven consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Alief Hastings' offense. They came up short against Fulshear on Tuesday, falling 17-0.

Foster's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-6-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Alief Hastings, their loss dropped their record down to 2-14.

Everything went Foster's way against Alief Hastings in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as Foster made off with an 18-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
