Soccer Game Preview: Gaither vs. Newsome

The Gaither Cowboys will square off against the Newsome Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Gaither will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more goals each contest than the last.

Gaither's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Hillsborough 8-0. Considering the Cowboys have won five games by more than three goals this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Their offense was hitting Hillsborough from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Abbey Vasquez led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for four goals all by herself.

Meanwhile, Newsome unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. Neither they nor Plant could gain the upper hand so the two teams had to settle for a 0-0 draw. The result (or lack thereof) marked Wolves' first draw of the season.

Newsome's draw gives them a new season record of 11-2-1. As for Gaither, the victory got them back to even at 5-5-1.

Gaither suffered a grim 4-1 defeat to Newsome when the teams last played back in December of 2019. Can Gaither avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
