Walkertown has gone 7-1 against Leadership Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Wolfpack will be playing at home against the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. Walkertown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Walkertown will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Greater Vision Academy on Tuesday. The Wolfpack put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 14-2 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wolfpack as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
David Olmedo made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Cam Smith was incredible, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Manny Morales, who earned two runs and three stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Leadership Academy hadn't done well against Bishop McGuinness recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way last Tuesday. The Falcons had just enough and edged out the Villains 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Falcons have posted since March 11th.
The team relied heavily on Clay Smith, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Leadership Academy is 4-1 when Smith posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Hank Gaston was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Leadership Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matchups.
Leadership Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Walkertown, their win bumped their record up to 16-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Walkertown has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Leadership Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
