Recap: Tremont Eagles vs. Smithville Seminoles
The Tremont Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight defeat. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 68-47 walloping at the hands of Smithville. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Tremont of the 58-49 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Tremont's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Leo Cousseau, who scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Nate Ruffin, who scored nine points.
Tremont has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-19 record this season. As for Smithville, their win bumped their record up to 8-11.
Tremont will be playing at home against Mantachie at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Tremont has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Smithville, they will head out on the road to square off against Hatley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hatley is coming into the contest with three straight defeats at home, so Smithville is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
