Basketball Recap: Nathan Jackson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Spring Creek over Pamlico County

On Saturday, the Spring Creek Gators came up short against the Pamlico County Hurricanes and fell 74-65. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (56), the Gators still had to take the loss.

Several Gators players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nathan Jackson, who went 8 of 14 en route to 22 points and eight rebounds. The contest was Jackson's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brennan Chambers, who posted 22 points.

Spring Creek has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Pamlico County, they moved to 1-7 with that win, which also ended their eight-game losing streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Spring Creek will take on Rosewood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Spring Creek knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Rosewood likes a good challenge. As for Pamlico County, they will face off against Martin County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Martin County's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Pamlico County has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
