Basketball Game Preview: Pagosa Springs Pirates vs. Gunnison Cowboys

Pagosa Springs is a perfect 4-0 against Gunnison since December of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Pirates will be taking part in a tournament against the Cowboys at 1:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Pagosa Springs is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Thursday. They blew past Grand Junction Central 53-27.

Adelyn Hittle had an outrageously good game as she posted seven points along with seven steals and five rebounds. Those seven steals gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddie DeClark, who scored four points and three steals.

Pagosa Springs smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Gunnison was able to grind out a solid victory over Grand Junction Central on Friday, taking the game 41-34.

Everything came up roses for Pagosa Springs against Gunnison when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 52-22 win. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cowboys turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
