Baseball Recap: Cumberland Takes Down Ranked South Kingstown

Cumberland faced South Kingstown in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Clippers were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Rebels. With that win, the Clippers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Liam Monahan tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits.

On the hitting side, Cumberland got a massive performance out of Chase Austin, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave Austin a new career-high. Micah Cousineau was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.

Cumberland hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in five consecutive matchups.

Cumberland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for South Kingstown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-7.
