Baseball Game Preview: Pomona Panthers vs. D'Evelyn Jaguars

Pomona hasn't had much luck against D'Evelyn recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Panthers will head out on the road to take on the Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. Pomona will be strutting in after a victory while D'Evelyn will be coming in after a loss.

Pomona took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Littleton 2-1. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Tyler Dempsey tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Pomona is undefeated when Dempsey allows one or fewer earned runs, but 2-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Gage Douglas was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Pomona's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-2 (and 1-7 when he doesn't).

Pomona was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, D'Evelyn was a bit more limited in their matchup on Tuesday. They fell 6-1 to Green Mountain. The Jaguars haven't had much luck with the Rams recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

D'Evelyn's defeat dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Pomona, their record is now 5-9.
