Basketball Recap: Northview Vikings vs. Sierra Vista Dons
Northview was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They lost 54-34 to the Sierra Vista Dons. The contest was a 23-23 toss-up at halftime, but the Vikings couldn't quite close it out.
Sierra Vista's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aaron Buna led the charge by putting up 18 points and five steals. Buna's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Peter Albir, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 10 points and five rebounds.
Northview's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Sierra Vista, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6.
Northview will host Apple Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Apple Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Northview likes a good challenge. As for Sierra Vista, they will be taking part in a tournament against Math & Science College Preparatory at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. Math & Science College Preparatory will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Sierra Vista surely won't give up without a fight.
