Baseball Game Preview: West Middlesex Big Reds vs. Wilmington Greyhounds

The West Middlesex Big Reds will venture away from home to square off against the Wilmington Greyhounds at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. West Middlesex is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

On Wednesday, West Middlesex came up short against Greenville and fell 7-3. The Big Reds haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Kyle Gilson put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Gilson wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Blanton, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Wilmington fell victim to Howland and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. The match marked the first time this season in which the Greyhounds were not able to get on the board.

Wilmington has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for West Middlesex, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.

West Middlesex skirted past Wilmington 4-2 in their previous matchup on April 1st. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Big Reds since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
