Preview: Middletown Mustangs vs. Fort Bragg Timberwolves
After two games on the road, Middletown is heading back home. They will take on The Fort Bragg Timberwolves at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Thursday, Middletown got themselves on the board against Cloverdale, but Cloverdale never followed suit. They claimed a resounding 42-0 win over the Eagles on the road. Given Middletown's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 391st, while Cloverdale is ranked 864th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Fort Bragg got the win against Upper Lake on Friday by a conclusive 28-6. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Fort Bragg just coasted through the last quarter.
Alex Nicholson had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 174 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry, and also threw for 64 yards and a touchdown. Beau Hebden was another key contributor, rushing for 109 yards on only 12 carries.
Middletown is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Fort Bragg, their win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-4.
Middletown didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Fort Bragg when the teams last played back in October of 2022, but they still walked away with a 27-22 victory. Will Middletown repeat their success, or does Fort Bragg have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
