Recap: Huntington Red Devils vs. Westwood Panthers
This season hasn't been kind to The Huntington Red Devils, who are still winless after their eighth match. They were outmatched by Westwood on the road and fell 55-0. While losing is never fun, Huntington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1104th, while Westwood is ranked 388th).
Westwood found their leader in underclassman Kavian Bryant, who threw for 290 yards and five touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Jordan Velasquez also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Huntington's defeat was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.9 points per game. As for Westwood, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-1.
Huntington will look to defend their home field on Friday against Diboll at 7:00 p.m. Diboll is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games. As for Westwood, they will head out on the road to face off against Crockett at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
